CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND! Tigers Knock Off Cougars to Advance to CACC Final



Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team are heading back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship match for the first time since 2011 after knocking off Caldwell University, 3-0, in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Court University Wellness Center.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family came out firing as the Tigers opened the first set with a 9-0 run.  The Tigers then led 12-1 and used a 6-0 rally to grab a 19-5 advantage.  Holy Family went on to take the first set by the score of 25-8.  In the first set the Tigers limited Caldwell to just four kills and an attack percentage of -.062. 
 
* The opener set the tone for the match as the Tigers dominated by holding a 43-14 advantage with kills and a 10-1 margin on the serve with aces.  Holy Family also recorded 39 digs compared to only 28 by the Cougars.  The Tigers finished the match with a .356 attack percentage; third highest of the season.
 
* Holy Family went on to win the second set with ease, 25-12, and clinched the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
 
News and Notes
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) set a new single season record for assists as she finished the match with 41 assists.  As a result, she now has 1,331 assists this season breaking the former mark of 1,318 set by former standout Aimee Drabyn in 2007. 
 
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) each recorded double-digit kills in the win.  Wassel led the match with 14 kills to go along with 12 digs.  Pesognelli added 12 kills and finished with an impressive .611 attack percentage after committing only one error on 18 total attempts. 
 
* Sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) finished the day with nine kills and six digs.
 
* Junior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the match with 14 digs.  Boyle is approaching 1,000 digs in her Holy Family career.  She currently has 958 digs in a Tigers' uniform; 42 shy of the 1,000 milestone.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 22nd meeting between Holy Family and Caldwell since the start of the 2006 season.  The Tigers are now 8-14 versus the Cougars in the all-time series. Today was also the sixth meeting between the two teams in the postseason with the Tigers snapping a five-match losing skid to the Cougars.
 
Championship Bound!
Holy Family is heading back to the CACC Title match for the first time since 2011 and for the fourth time in program history.  The Tigers appeared in the CACC finals in 2007, 2010, 2011 and now 2018.  Holy Family will be looking for its first conference championship in program history. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family will face either #2S Georgian Court University or #1N Post University in the CACC Final tomorrow afternoon.  Match time is set for 12 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.  The winner of tomorrow's final will earn the CACC's automatic bid into the upcoming NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
