Tigers Edge Lions for Eighth Straight Win



Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team went the distance with division rival Georgian Court University but when it was all said and done the Tigers were on top of a 3-2 decision in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night inside the GCU Wellness Center.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family took the first two sets by the scores of 25-18 and 25-19 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.  The Tigers recorded a match-high 15 kills in the first set while hitting at a .387 clip.  Georgian Court followed with back-to-back wins in the next two sets to tie the match before Holy Family came away with a 15-12 victory in the fifth and decisive set.

Holy Family: Junior Chase Wassel led the Tigers with 18 kills to go along with a team-high 21 digs… It marks the second straight match that Wassel recorded 20-plus digs… Junior Jaime Bonner finished the night with 14 kills while hitting at a .306 percentage… Junior Natalie Stewart totaled 49 assists to pace the offense and set a new career-high with seven aces… Stewart also recorded seven digs… Sophomore Gianna Pesognelli added 10 kills, while freshman Carly Covington finished with nine kills and 16 digs… Sophomore Jillian Boyle totaled 20 digs on defense and junior Kailyn McNamee finished with 13 digs.
 
Georgian Court: For the Lions, Peggy Rosario totaled a match-high 19 kills to go along with 17 digs… Gaby Merced recorded a match-high 22 digs, while Ashley Pierson finished with 25 assists, 10 digs and six aces… Amy Bruno added 10 kills.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 33rd meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2003 season.  With the win, the Tigers are now 15-18 versus the Lions.
 
Postseason Picture
With their last win the Tigers officially clinched a spot in next month's conference tournament. With tonight's win the Tigers will be hosting a quarterfinal match.  Holy Family officially clinched the second seed in the CACC South Division and as a result will host a postseason match for the first time since 2012.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will host cross-town rival Jefferson on Thursday, Nov. 2 in a CACC contest. Match time is set for 6 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The Tigers trail the Rams by two matches for first place in the CACC South.
