Tigers Extend Win Streak to Five After Defeating Bears, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team knocked off its fifth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent with a 3-0 victory over visiting Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family made quick work of the Bears in the first set to set the tone for the match.  The Tigers recorded 16 kills in the set and had a hitting percentage of .406, while holding Bloomfield to one kill the entire set.  The Tigers took the first set, 25-8.
 
* The Tigers went on to record 14 and 13 kills in the next two sets respectively and finished the match with a .231 hitting percentage. In total, Holy Family finished with 43 kills as a team.
 
* Bloomfield struggled on the attack as the Bears totaled only 17 kills the entire match while making 12 errors of a low hitting percentage of .057.

Holy Family: Sophomore Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) tied her season-high with 14 kills to lead the match… She committed only three errors on the attack for a .393 hitting percentage… Pesognelli also had a pair of aces in the match…Junior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) connected on 11 kills to go along with 12 digs, while junior Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) added eight kills… Sophomore Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with 13 digs… Junior Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) recorded a match-high 27 assists.
 
Bloomfield: Danielle Quintanar led the Bears with six kills to go along with five digs… Ashley Stroot added five kills and totaled two blocks…Linda Thomas led the match with 14 digs, while Junelly Marrero contributed nine digs and 16 assists.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Bloomfield dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers snapped a four-match losing streak versus the Bears marking the team's first win against Bloomfield since the 2013 season.  The Tigers are now 13-8 in the all-time series.
 
Approaching 1,000 Digs
With her 12 digs in today's match, Wassel is now 15 digs shy of 1,000 for her career. She'll enter her next match with 985 career digs and could become the third player in program history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.  Only two players have previously reached the 1,000 kills and digs milestone in their respective careers; Jennifer O'Connor (2005-08) and Rachel Johnson (2012-15).

Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 as the Tigers hit the road to face city-rival University of the Sciences in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
