Tigers Defeat Clippers, 3-1



Bronxville, N.Y. - Sophomores Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) combined for 28 kills as the Holy Family University women's volleyball defeated Concordia College by the score of 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center.

How It Happened
Holy Family jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the match after taking the first two sets by the scores of 25-18 and 25-20.  In the first set the Tigers never trailed and led by as many as nine points after taking a 19-10 lead.  Holy Family totaled a match-high 15 kills in the set and finished with a .278 attack percentage.  In the second set, Holy Family committed just two errors on the attack and recorded a match-best .381 attack percentage.  The Tigers trailed 3-1 in the set but rallied for five straight points and never looked back to win the set, 25-20.
 
Concordia halted the Tigers shutout bid with a 25-15 victory in the third set but the Tigers sealed the victory with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.  Holy Family trailed 8-5 in the fourth set and rallied for six unanswered points to take an 11-8 lead. The Clippers cut the lead to 12-10 but Holy Family once again came through with another rally scoring five straight points to lead 17-10. The Tigers went on to take the set and win the match with a 25-20 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Wassel led the team with a match-high 17 kills while recording a .229 attack percentage. She also picked up 13 digs and three service aces. Riley also totaled double-digit kills with 11 while hitting at a .310 clip.  She also finished with two service aces and seven digs.  Sophomore Kelly Bergen (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the team with 14 digs, while freshman Nicole Cripps (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added seven digs. Junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) led the match with 39 assists to go along with three block assists and eight digs.
 
Concordia: Michelle Klimas led the Clippers with eight kills, while Delaney Stuhr totaled seven kills and six digs.  Celine Arada totaled a team-high 13 digs, while Bianca Ortiz recorded 17 assists and five digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 10th meeting all-time between Holy Family and Concordia since the series started in 2004. The Tigers are now 8-2 all-time versus the Clippers winning eight straight matches.  
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 as the Tigers travel to face Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
