Tigers Drop Home Opener Versus West Chester, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University volleyball team came up short in its home opener as the Tigers fell to visiting West Chester University by the score of 3-0 in a non-conference contest Tuesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The Golden Rams won the match by the scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13.
 
Holy Family is now 1-3 overall, while West Chester remains undefeated on the year with a 5-0 overall record.
 
Freshman Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), who was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll earlier today, finished with a team-high nine kills to lead the Holy Family attack.  Senior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) added six kills and seven digs, while junior Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) produced four kills and a pair of digs.
 
Freshman Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the team with nine digs, while freshman Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) totaled 17 assists to go along with three digs.
 
For West Chester, senior Molly Grammer led the team with nine kills, while three others added seven kills apiece.  Senior Marina Sharkey and freshmen Victoria Cruciani and Allie Duffy each totaled seven kills.  Freshman Nicki Yates led the team with 12 digs, while freshman Jillian Grammer recorded a game-high 29 assists.
 
Holy Family returns to action this upcoming weekend as the Tigers take part in the Wildcat Regional Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.  Holy Family will face Le Moyne College (3:00 p.m.) and Pace University (7:00 p.m.) on Friday and then will close out the tournament with American International College (10:00 a.m.) and Franklin Pierce University (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
