Johnson Records 1,000th Career Kill Against Georgian Court



Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) became the fourth player in program history to reach the 1,000th career kill milestone as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team faced off against visiting Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Thursday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Georgian Court went on to win the match, 3-0, in straight sets by the scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23 to improve to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.  Holy Family is now 1-9 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.
 
Midway through the first set, Johnson recorded kill number 999 to make the score 14-11 in favor of the Tigers.  Moments later she converted her 1,000th career kill to tie the set, 15-15. 
 
Johnson went on to finish the match with a match-high 10 kills as she sits fourth on the all-time kills list with 1,008 career kills.  She also finished the match with nine digs.  
 
Junior Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) and freshman Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each finished with nine kills apiece, while redshirt junior Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) totaled eight kills.  Freshmen Kelly Bergen (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) each totaled double-figure digs in the match.  Bergen finished with 12, while Riley came away with a team-high 14 digs.
 
Senior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) added five kills and two total blocks on the night, while freshman Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) finished with a match-high 35 assists to go along with ten digs.
 
For Georgian Court, redshirt junior Jessica Pedroza and freshman Peggy Rosario each led the Lions with seven kills.  Pedroza also totaled 14 digs, while Rosario finished with six.  Junior Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa led the match with 19 digs, while junior Kelsey Oliver paced the offense with 18 assists.
 
As a team, Georgian Court recorded 12 total blocks, including seven block assists and one solo block by junior Kelsie Blue. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19 as the Tigers travel to face LIU Post and Franklin Pierce University in a tri-match hosted by the Pioneers in Brookville, N.Y.  Holy Family will face Franklin Pierce at 3 p.m. and host LIU Post at 5:30 p.m.
