Pesognelli Named CACC Rookie of the Week

New Haven, Conn. - Holy Family University freshman Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 6 as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In addition, junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

Pesognelli and Brien helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 week versus conference opponents. Holy Family came away with identical 3-1 victories at Goldey-Beacom College and versus Georgian Court University. The two wins clinched the team's fourth straight berth into the upcoming CACC Tournament. The Tigers are currently third in the South Division.

Pesognelli averaged 2.37 kills per set while hitting over .500 for the week. She totaled eight kills and three block assists in the win at Goldey-Beacom. Pesognelli followed that up with an 11-kill performance as she finished the match with an attack percentage of .556. She also recorded two solo blocks and one block assist. For the week, she totaled 19 kills and only one attack error on 35 total attempts.

This season Pesognelli is averaging 2.48 kills per set with a .296 attack percentage. She also has 51 total blocks, including eight solo blocks and 43 block assists.

Brien nearly matched her career-high in assists as she paced the Holy Family offense with 46 assists in each of the two victories; one shy of her career-high. She averaged 11.5 assists per set while totaling 92 for the week. Brien also recorded seven digs and two aces versus Goldey-Beacom and had five digs and another pair of aces against Georgian Court.

Brien is averaging almost 10.0 assists per game with 662 on the season in 22 matches. She also has totaled 30 aces and 132 digs (1.94 d/s).

Holy Family (14-14, 11-7 CACC) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 8 as the Tigers travel to face West Chester University in a non-conference contest. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. The team will then return home on Saturday, Nov. 12 to host Philadelphia University in the final regular season match of the season.
