Tigers Shutdown LIU Post, 9-0

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's tennis team recorded a 9-0 shutout victory over visiting LIU Post in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at the Torresdale Frankford Country Club Tennis Courts. 
 
Holy Family improves to 8-5 overall, while LIU Post is now 0-6 on the season.
 
Holy Family led 3-0 after doubles competitions as senior Juliana Victoria (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) and freshman Alina Nersesyan (Yaroslavi, Russia/) led the way with an 8-1 victory at first doubles over Lejila Heco and Jovana Djurdjevic. 
 
At second doubles, junior Steicy Castro (London, England/Norwood) and sophomore Casey Borish (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) recorded a hard-fought victory over Katie Avelar and Amanda Gaimaro by the score of 9-7.  The Tigers received a point at third doubles as junior Maja Pantelic (Palic, Serbia/) and freshman Jacqueline Clyne (West Islip, N.Y./) won by default.
 
In singles action, the Tigers swept all six competitions to complete the match shutout.  Victoria won at first singles in straight sets over Heco, 6-0, 6-1, while Nersesyan was victorious at second singles (6-1, 6-0) over Katie Avelar.
 
Pantelic picked up a straight set victory at third singles over Gaimaro by the scores of 6-0, 6-1.  Castro and Clyne went on to win at fourth and fifth singles respectively by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.  Finally, at sixth singles, Borish earned the point and victory by default.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 14 as the Tigers travel to Georgian Court University for a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to determine the fourth and final seed in the upcoming conference championship.  Match time is slated for 12 p.m. With a victory over the Lions, the Tigers would clinch the fourth seed in next weekends semifinals.
